Finding a therapist is really hard, especially here in Humboldt County. Because there is no need to reinvent the wheel, I have shared here a video by clinical psychologist Dr. Ali Mattu who gives a really detailed look at all of the different considerations for when you are looking for a therapist. If you are an adult in Humboldt, here are some places to help you start searching for the right therapist for you:
Many of us received inadequate to no sex ed and if you are like me, there was no mention of queerness in the inadequate sex education I received. It seems that most easy to access sex resources are focused on monogamous, heteronormative relationships between cis-folks and therefore, leave out a significant portion of the population. The thing about queer sex education is that it includes everyone - all body parts, gender identities, and sexual orientations!
Here are some resources to fill in the gaps of that inadequate sex education: Queer Sex Ed, the podcast: https://www.queersexed.org/ Sex Ed For Adults: A Queer-Positive Guide to Sexual Health, a blog post with great information and links to additional resources: https://www.nurx.com/blog/sex-ed-for-adults-a-queer-positive-guide-to-sexual-health/, If you like that specific post, explore the blog for all kinds of other sex and health information. The Sex, Gender, and Relationships Hotline. This is a place you can reach out to via phone or e-mail to ask specific questions. https://sgrhotline.org/ Swoon, a podcast about sex and relationships. Episode #17 is titled: "Let's Talk About Sex: Sex Education We Wish Everyone Knew https://www.therapyden.com/blog/swoon-show-notes-episode-17. The blog includes additional resources and there you can access all the show episodes. Oh Joy, Sex Toy. This is an online comic (for 18+) where the writers review sex toys and provide sex education. It updates on Tuesdays and the archives are full of useful information: https://www.ohjoysextoy.com/ This is certainly not an exhaustive list of resources and many of these resources will lead you to further resources. I hope that this is a good start to your journey in learning more about healthy, positive sexual experiences. |
WelcomeThis blog is a space I envision sharing resources on different topics over time. I hope that this is a place where resources of a variety of formats (websites, books, podcasts, documentaries, etc...) can be centralized for easy reference. Archives
